Finally at long last I've managed to assemble my vampire counts skeleton army!
The delay has been a mix between my love for painting my zombies and the sheer frustration of trying to stick these little buggers together - id imagine these are going to require some more concentration to paint the small details so I'll probably start with warbosstae's
Tutorial and go from there
They do look fab but I'm not sure I'd venture on another box of them yet. However I may change my mind once I start painting!
They have had their skull white base coat and are ready for action
Originally the first zombie I painted was my favourite, but a new zombie has stolen my heart!
Have finished my 3rd and 4th undead and now beginning to look like a pretty hardcore horde!
I'm glad I have a skelly army to work on as I can imagine the 16 more zombies I have would get slightly repetitive - however as I was able to build them how I like, their all very different anyway so I'm happy to have more to paint!
I'm keeping a uniform colour of blues/greens and browns for clothing.
My new favourite zombie is my collector, as I call him. He's a blood thirsty trophy hunter and as you can see, has his collection very much started! With a decaying human head and the top half of somebody's husband, father or brother... He's a pretty happy zombie! So am I - he took longer for the details but well worth the effort, even with the nails hammered into his weapon, think it really improves the model

So... I crumbled to the new vampire counts releases - believe me if have brought one of every vampire counts release by now and probably the beastmen too but I'm trying not to dive head first into this hobby - despite so far feeling that this ones a keeper
So I'm still assembling my skelly army and painting up my zombie army - I'm limited to weekends for painting as I work and commute far so I'm never back before 6pm despite leaving for work at 7am - by the time I'm back and fed and watered and entertained the dog it's too late and I'm too tired to paint - so as far as production, it's all fairly slow, but I like to think its quality over quantity with my work!
I did manage to pick up the finecast Isabella von carstein model - and she does look amazing! It's likely she will sit and watch me paint my others before I touch her, hopefully developing my skills before I get to her
So - for now - back to painting, my
Zombies await!
Similar methods to previously - I really feel the washes make the most of the vampire counts mini's - they really bring life (or death) to the zombies!
As ever I enjoyed this poor soul as I painted - found myself making less mistakes with the brush (invester in better brushes!) and can feel the confidence in me building - still taking things slowly though, this one took about two and a half hours - I'm really keen to try and reach a high standard with the painting - but for my
Second ever figure, I'm pleased.
Bases on both models are not finished, I'm waiting for some materials to be delivered which I think should put a finishing touch to the work
I added some dry brushing to the club to pick out the highlights - I also used some gloss on his wounds to really have them shine like a fresh wound - I like the effect
Growing with this figure as with the first I used the tutorial on YouTube by WarBossTae and copied colours etc and even used the same model - this one I built and chose colours etc myself, the hair I wasn't sure I could make look very good - I might change later but I think for now it suits the model
One of the main reasons I'm such a hobby butterfly is my dad! He's always been the same and now I proudly follow in his footsteps!
A big plus for me painting the warhammer fantasy figures is not only because of how great they can look, but so I can join forces with my dad!
He currently making the diorama for my VC range, starting with a haunted house and I'm sure I'll get him to expand it into a graveyard scene and then once the vampire counts models have their home - I have ideas for the Beastmen armies to live in some dark woodland areas....
So my dad builds his models from scratch, and has a blog as mentioned above with the progress of his haunted house... These two blogs will likely run together so thought it was worth adding the link - plus I'm super impressed with all his work, and I just know this house is going to look fantastic!
That was certainly some of the least fun I've had so far!
A challenge in itself is assembling a skeleton army! Very tricky sticking virtually nothing to nothing! Not much contact made for the stick so it was really tricky and somewhat frustrating!
I managed to get the one fully assembled and a few of the legs down to the bases, I'll continue tomorrow
Wanted to get the skelly army assembled so I could flip between painting my zombies and skellys for some variety - just hope the glue does its job!

So my first real attempt at warhammer figure painting and my first Zombie from my forthcoming army is officially raised from the dead and ready to be joined by other unlucky souls!
It took ages! A good 2/3 hours work but I really wanted to perfect what I could and pay plenty of attention to detail - I've been so impressed by some works I've seen online and really want to work towards such brilliant painting results

Huge credit to WarbossTae - YouTube him for some excellent tutorials and paint work. Used his zombie tutorial and likely to do the same with my skelly army!
All based and ready to go - i really am a beginner so im self teaching (and learning) I've sprayed my zombies with what I think is enough to coat, without putting too much paint on to clogg up the details, I also used white instead of a black base as I'm going for a lighter scheme of colours.
Zombie army assembled - I found myself wishing I had more parts because of all the fantastic gruesome combinations I found myself making while creating my army - all as deranged and blood thirsty as each other.
Hoping to give them all a base spray with skull white later today - I thought I'd easily get bored of the construction but actually I loved creating the army - although my zombies often created themselves!

So my army is beginning to take shape! I've assembled heads to torso's and torso's to legs and legs to base, Im still to add arms and weapons to give my army half a chance but I'm really loving the way things are taking shape! I finished the below guy, creeping out from his grave, he's recently raised so likely to be a handful and lethal with his weapon!
Hoping to finish assembling tomorrow so I can pop them in for their base spray, while that's drying I may begin to assemble my skelly army. No stopping me now!
Brought my first 'White dwarf' magazine today, the Dec issue, some great tips in there and general stuff to drool over - loving vampire counts but when first choosing the beastmen also caught my eye so may experiment with those in the future!
So, after painstakingly separating and ensuring my parts are fairly neat looking I'm ready to begin making some actual commitment! What to stick, and where!
Need to keep telling myself I can't really go wrong here, it's my zombie army and can be built exactly how I want them to, without the worry of what legs to put with what torso - etc etc!
Better get cracking then, time to bring my undead back to... Well the undead, I guess!
